Planning for climate change adaptation and disaster risk management is a critical role of local governments. Under the Philippine Climate Change Act of 2009 (RA 9729), LGUs are recognized as frontline agencies in formulating and implementing climate actions that directly protect their communities.
From November 24–28, 2025, DILG MIMAROPA, in coordination with DHSUD MIMAROPA and DOST PAG-ASA, conducted the Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) Training-Workshop at Tribute Hotel, Quezon City. The workshop capacitated 19 LGUs—whose LCCAPs are expiring or being updated—in the proper conduct of CDRA, a vital step in developing their Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plans (eLCCAPs).
The training focused on helping participants to:
Gather and analyze climate and hazard data
Develop and utilize an exposure database
Understand vulnerability and sensitivity analysis tools
Conduct Disaster Risk Assessments
Identify development implications and formulate adaptive strategies
Through this initiative, LGUs are now better equipped to prioritize resilience, integrate low emission development strategies, and align local actions with national climate goals—ensuring holistic and sustainable development for their communities. ![]()
